I am in Frederick, Maryland at Mr. and Mrs. Borsa's house! Did you get my postcard yet? Attached are 3 pictures of me with the new friends I have met at the Borsa house. In the first picture, we all went sledding - do you see the hat that they loaned to me?
In the second picture, we talked about living in Frederick and in the state of Maryland, and in the last picture we were having tea.
Maryland is much closer to Massachusetts than the other two states that I have visited (Hawaii and California). The weather in Frederick is similar to where we live in Massachusetts - there are 4 seasons. There is a cool fall where the leaves turn many beautiful colors like red and orange and yellow, just like at home! The leaves are especially pretty in the low mountains near Frederick that are part of the Appalachian trail. (The Appalachian Trail stretches from Maine to Georgia! People love to hike it.) Winter in Maryland is not as cold and there is not as much snow as in Massachusetts. Sometimes the ponds outdoors get cold enough to ice skate, but not as often as in Massachusetts. In the spring, there are many flowering plants, and some plants that are more common in southern United States can also live here, like magnolia trees. Summers are hot and humid. With all my fur, I wouldn't be happy here!
Frederick is located in the middle of the state of Maryland. Frederick people can drive west and go hiking in the mountains, or drive east and go to the beach and swim in the Atlantic Ocean! About an hour away from Frederick is the Chesapeake Bay, which is a very important waterway for Maryland. The city of Baltimore is on the bay, and shipping has been a very important part of the history of Maryland. Frederick is also known for its role in Civil War history. Several battles were fought here, such as the Battle of the Monocacy. Also the Civil War Museum of Medicine is here.
Speaking of Chesapeake Bay, Maryland is famous for Crabcakes, which are a delicious seafood! The Blue Crab is found in the bay and watermen have been catching them for hundreds of years! Marylanders work hard to protect the Bay because it is so important for fishing and other businesses and recreation. My favorite store in Frederick is called McCutcheon's! They have wonderful apples and make apple cider and apple butter. They also have many other kinds of jams and jellies, but my FAVORITE is their HONEY!! I will see you back in Massachusetts after I finish my United States travels!
Love
