Ishemel Meets a Musk Ox

Holy Hairy Beast! Today I got to meet some really interesting creatures. The Native Alaskans call them Oomingmak, which means "The Bearded One". They are more commonly called Musk Ox and my new musk ox friend is Madison.

Did you know that musk oxen are an ice age mammal that once roamed the earth alongside saber tooth tigers and woolly mammoths? They can weigh up to 1,400 pounds and their fur is super soft. It's called qiviut and is some of the finest (and warmest) wool in the world.

Madison kept licking me, and I'm not so sure he brushed his teeth...like...ever!

Hope you are all learning lots in class and having fun!

Love,
Ishemel

PS....don't forget to brush your teeth. Emoji
