Peanut is in Oakland!

Greetings Proctor!
Today I went to Lake Merritt, a large tidal lagoon in the center of Oakland, CA. Oakland has a population of 406,253 people, and you can see lots of people jogging, walking, and canoeing around the lake. Oakland's Lake Merritt is historically significant as the United States' first official wildlife refuge, designated in 1870. The lake features grassy shores; several artificial islands intended as bird refuges (notice the egret in the photo);
an interpretive center called the Rotary Nature Center; a boating center where sailboats, canoes and rowboats can be rented. I loved watching people kayak and canoe around the lake during the day, and especially enjoyed taking a sunset stroll along the lake during the early evening.

The buildings in the background are Downtown Oakland.

Tomorrow we are going to San Francisco!!!! I can't wait to drive over the bay bridge!!!

Love,
Peanut!
