Well Arizona was a sight to see. We woke up before the sun & watched a beautiful sunrise in the desert as we drove on towards CA. We passed an area loaded with all these cool cactuses or "cacti", if you will. Then as quick as we left that area we were viewing rocky-type mountain areas in the middle of the desert. It's all so strange to see since I am a New England bear! And there wasn't a tall tree to be seen for hundreds of miles.
The weather was warm, almost 70° & blue skies as far as you can see. When we stopped to fuel up (Doug has 2 fuel tanks on his truck so we can go very far without having to stop very often & sometimes it costs almost $800 to fill the tanks up, wow!! -Will someone tell Mrs. Murphy that we saw regular gas (we use diesel, though) for $2.15 a gallon back in TX?), Jen & I went into the store to buy a postcard to send out to your class & I saw a donkey for sale & I got to sit on it. Well, it actually was a pack mule, which used to be common in the canyon & farm areas of the southwest. Doug & Jen saw real working ones carrying supplies in the Grand Canyon this past summer, they are amazingly hard working animals.
Boot shopping & new pal the pack mule |
Rattlesnakes, among other types of snakes are common in these parts & you have to be REAL careful when out walking. People who spend a lot of time outdoors wear boots, even in the summer to prevent bites of unexpected snake encounters (many of the snakes here are camouflaged with the ground & rocks so it makes it hard for theto see, -yikes!) Jen let me try on some boots in the store for fun & I met a friendly rattlesnake while doing so...don't worry, it was fake, but Jen says that they really do look like that! Pretty neat stuff, if you ask me.
The scenery changes before your very eyes! Crossing the Colorado River from AZ to CA. |
I've attached photos of my fun & also crossing the Colorado River into CA!
So long, Arizona!
